Ben Hiltzheimer

Ben Hiltzheimer is a trial lawyer with over 15 years of experience, exclusively focused on criminal defense. He earned his law degree from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and was trained at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, which former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder described as “the best public defender office in the country.” From 2006 to 2011, Ben served as an attorney at the Public Defender Service, spending two years in a specialized role addressing complex forensic issues and systemic criminal justice concerns in collaboration with the Innocence Project. He then transitioned into representing indigent clients charged with felonies in D.C. Superior Court, advocating for them throughout the entire trial process. Ben has built a strong reputation for securing positive outcomes for his clients and remains dedicated to defending individuals against the considerable power of state and federal authorities. Throughout his career, he has remained steadfast in his commitment to representing those accused of crimes, never working for the prosecution. Ben currently resides in Carrboro with his wife and three children.
