Biography

Bradley P. Kline (Brad) is a Partner in the Charlotte office of Cranfill Sumner, where he has been practicing defense litigation since 2005. During this time, Brad has worked on civil litigation, employment law, police and municipal law and workers’ compensation matters, with a primary focus now in the Workers’ Compensation, Employment Law, and Municipal Law Practice Groups.

Brad has experience handling claims in many areas of workers’ compensation including claims involving traumatic injuries by accident, occupational diseases, chemical exposure, death claims, and permanent/total disability scenarios. He has obtained favorable results for defendants at mediated settlement conferences and in litigation before the Industrial Commission, and has experience at both the Deputy Commissioner and Full Commission levels.

In his employment and municipal practice, Brad has represented employers at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Department of Labor and Employment Security Commission and obtained favorable outcomes for employers in numerous matters. He has also defended numerous public entities and public officials in lawsuits involving claims of wrongful termination, discrimination and constitutional violations in both federal and state courts.

The outcome of a particular case cannot be predicated upon a lawyer's or a law firm's past results.; Obtained a Magistrate's Recommendation of Summary Judgment in a civil rights case in which Plaintiff alleged that a business refused to do business with him because of his race. The case was settled following the issuance of the Magistrate's Recommendation.; Obtained Summary Judgment on behalf of a municipality and police officer. Plaintiff had alleged that he was subjected to an unreasonable search and seizure and was deprived of his substantive and procedural due process rights, all in violation of the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution. Oral arguments were held before the Fourth Circuit, and the Court issued a per curiam decision affirming the decision of the lower court.; Obtained Summary Judgment on behalf of a municipality, its police chief and a police officer. Plaintiff was a former police officer who alleged libel and a deprivation of his liberty interest under 42 U.S.C. 1983. Oral arguments were held before the Fourth Circuit, and the Court affirmed the decision of the lower court.; Obtained Summary Judgment on behalf of two individually named members of a corporation that owned and operated various sandwich shops. Plaintiff alleged that she contracted Salmonella javiana food poisoning from a sandwich she ate at one of the restaurants owned and operated by the corporation.; Obtained a dismissal on behalf of a municipal client. Plaintiff alleged she had been discriminated against based upon her sex and retaliated against because she complained about a violation of her civil rights. In dismissing plaintiff's Title VII claims, the Court held that it did not have subject matter jurisdiction over the claims filed.
