Brian C. Steward is a highly distinguished attorney, holding the
esteemed title of Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the
Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Additionally, he is a proud
member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, a testament to his
remarkable career spanning over three decades in the realm of complex
civil litigation across Texas, Louisiana, New Jersey, and New
Mexico.
Mr. Steward's legal journey began with his
admission to the State Bar of Texas in 1990, followed by admission to
the Western, Southern, Northern, and Eastern Districts of the Federal
Court system in 1992. His expertise extends to the Fifth Circuit
Court of Appeals, where he was admitted in 1994. While primarily a
civil trial attorney, Mr. Steward has effectively argued numerous
cases before the Fourth Court of Appeals and provided valuable
briefings to the Fifth Circuit on civil rights cases involving the
use of excessive force by law enforcement personnel.
Before
establishing his own law firm, Mr. Steward held significant roles as
a senior associate at Strasburger and Price, L.P., and later at
Ketterman, Rowland & Westlund. During his tenure at these firms,
he handled a diverse array of cases, including products liability,
medical malpractice, and business litigation, consistently taking
matters to trial. In his independent practice, he maintains a docket
encompassing products liability, medical malpractice, and commercial
dispute litigation. Moreover, he has achieved certification as a
mediator, contributing to the resolution of cases since the inception
of the Bexar County mediation system in 1992.
Mr. Steward
is deeply involved in the legal communities of San Antonio and Texas,
having presided over the Medical Legal Liaison Committee of the San
Antonio Bar Association on three separate occasions. His dedication
to serving non-profit organizations in Texas and Massachusetts led to
his recognition with the Distinguished Service Award by the San
Antonio Bar Association in 2021. He was also elected to chair the
State Bar of Texas Grievance Committee District 10 and actively
participated in the San Antonio Bar Association Diversity Task Force.
Furthermore, he currently serves as a Director of the San Antonio
Trial Lawyers Association and holds the distinction of being a former
Director of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association.
Mr. Steward's
commitment and contributions have earned him the respect of his
peers, as evident in his inclusion in the Texas Super Lawyers list
since 2016. He has also been recognized as one of San Antonio's Best
Lawyers since 2006 and was named one of the best 25 personal injury
litigators in the city in 2015.
Beyond his legal pursuits,
Mr. Steward actively supports the State Bar of Texas Continuing Legal
Education efforts, frequently contributing as a presenter since 1999.
In 2015, he assumed the role of Course Director for the Advanced
Personal Injury Trial Seminar. He has also been a presenter at
seminars hosted by TTLA and SATLA since 2015. Additionally, he is an
active member of the William S. Session's Chapter of the American
Inns of Court and participates in mentor programs with St. Mary's
School of Law.
A native San Antonian, Mr. Steward's
educational journey began at St. Mark's Episcopal and San Antonio
Academy. Following his graduation from The Academy in 1979, he
pursued his education at Deerfield Academy. Afterward, he attended
Duke University, earning a degree in History. Mr. Steward returned to San Antonio to pursue his legal education at St. Mary's School of
Law. He has been a dedicated Board Member of San Antonio Academy and
served as the president of the alumni association. Currently, he
serves as the regional chair for the Duke University Alumni
Admissions volunteers and is actively engaged in the Executive
Committee of the Deerfield Academy Alumni Council as the Vice
President.
In addition to his legal and educational
commitments, Mr. Steward dedicates his time to serving on the boards
of various organizations, including the San Antonio Library
Foundation, Child Advocates of San Antonio, San Antonio Zoological
Society, and the San Antonio Book Festival.
