Biography

Bruce Wilder is a 1986 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, and is admitted to practice before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, and the United States Supreme Court. He also holds an M.D. Degree from Tufts University School of Medicine (1966), and an M.P.H. degree from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (1970). He is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery since 1979. His areas of interest in the law include genetic and reproductive technology; health information technology (HIT), with emphasis on the protection of privacy and confidentiality of medical information; and hospital medical staff and disciplinary matters.

He has written extensively on the law of assisted reproduction, including the chapter on Assisted Reproduction in West's Pennsylvania Family Law Practice and Procedure with Forms (Vol. 17, West's Pennsylvania Practice), and on both the medical and legal aspects of electronic medical records (EMR), and has ongoing experience with the use of EMR. He represented the American Bar Association (ABA) in the Coalition on National Oversight of Assisted Reproductive Technology for several years. He is a past Chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Medical and Health Related Issues Interdisciplinary Committee, and of the Committee on the Law of Genetic and Assisted Reproduction Technology Committee of the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Family Law. He currently serves on the ABA Special Committee on Bioethics and the Law, and on the Ethics Committee of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. He is a Vice Chair of the Committee on Health Rights and Bioethics of the ABA Section on Individual Rights and Responsibilities. He is Counsel for the Pennsylvania Neurosurgical Society.

He has been a member of the Council of the Health Law Section of the Allegheny County Bar Association for several years, and is a

of the Allegheny County Bar Foundation, the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation, and the American Bar Foundation. He is a Patron (Life) Member of the Inter-American Bar Association. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and of the American College of Legal Medicine. For several years he has been a member of the Legal Committee of the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force, and of the Asylum Network of Physicians for Human Rights. He is a 2007 winner of the Pittsburgh Volunteer in the Arts (VITA) award.
