I have attended many of the same training courses developed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that police officers are required to complete. I am currently the only attorney in Sioux City, Iowa, area who is a certified DWI Detection and Standardized Sobriety Testing Instructor.

Throughout my career, I've handled hundreds of OWI/DUI/DWI cases. But some of them stand out as memorable wins for clients who could have had their lives permanently changed by a drunk driving arrest. I've won cases, including:

• A client from Georgia who was here on a work visa for an international company. If he had been convicted or pleaded guilty, his entire family would have had to leave the country. They would have lost their home, friends, and entire way of life here in The United States. After a 3-day trial, the jury returned a 'not guilty' verdict following mere minutes of deliberation.

• An EMT who had wanted to be a firefighter his entire life. He had a pending job offer but was almost denied the job because of a drunk driving arrest. We took the case to a jury trial and won. The jury returned a 'not guilty' verdict.

• A client in recovery who, even though he was sober, was repeatedly targeted by police. When he was stopped and arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of meth, we tried the case before a judge. He was found 'not guilty.'
