Biography

Byoungjoo has represented major corporate clients in international commercial arbitration cases and cross-border M&A transactions. His practice focuses not only on corporate matters, including mergers, acquisitions, and private equity transactions, but also on international arbitration and international trade.

Prior to joining Greenberg Traurig, LLP, he worked at one of the leading law firms in Korea. He also served as a judge advocate for three years, representing the Republic of Korea Air Force in various civil and administrative court proceedings.

Experience

Mergers & Acquisitions

• Represented a Korean conglomerate in its acquisition of a multinational company with offices and facilities in the United States, UK, Germany, and Turkey.

• Advised a major Korean conglomerate in their proposed acquisition of biotechnology company in the United States.°

• Advised a Korean public enterprise in executing a consultancy agreement with the Government of Tanzania.°

• Advised a Canadian biotechnology company in their restructuring agreement with a Korean biotechnology company.°

Capital Markets

• Advised in an offering of CHF 250 million 2.0275% “Green Bonds” notes due 2025 by Korea public enterprise under its US$2 billion Medium Term Note Program.

• Advised in an offering of US$700 millon 5.75% “Social Bonds” notes due 2025 by Korea public enterprise under its US$5 billion Medium Term Note Program.

International Arbitration

• Represented a Korean company in ICC arbitration seated in Singapore involving a dispute over a Distribution Agreement.

• Represented a Korean construction conglomerate against a Middle Eastern construction company relating to a delay and disruption claim.°

• Represented a Korean manufacturer in a dispute against a Thai company relating to liability for destruction of goods.°

• Represented a Korean energy company in defence of claims relating to demand guarantee.°

• Represented a Korean company in a dispute arising out of share and purchase agreement against a Maltese company.°

• Represented a Korean financial company in a set-aside proceeding in Hong Kong concerning an aware rendered in a HKIAC arbitration against a Chinese company.°

• Represented a Korean abrasive company in a claim arising from an abrasive supply contract against an Italy abrasive company.°

International Trade

• Represented a Korean manufacturer in anti-dumping/CVD/safeguard investigations and review initiated by foreign governments.°

• Advised on new regulatory and compliance issues in the EU, United States, and China, including CHIPs Act and IRA.°
