Biography

Mr. Hilton has either tried to verdict or settled on behalf of injured individuals and professionals hundreds of medical malpractice, personal injury and commercial lawsuits with multi-millions of dollars at stake. These successfully resolved cases were in the areas of medical malpractice, commercial and business litigation, trucking and automobile accidents, wrongful death, defective products, insurance disputes and premises liability. They have involved issues related to hospital and nursing negligence, traumatic brain injuries, orthopedics, obstetrics, nursing home and assisted living facility negligence, chiropractic, emergency medicine, neurosurgery, neurology, urology, anesthesia, internal medicine, cardiology, heart surgery, ophthalmology, cancer, gynecology, and many more areas of law and medicine. He has represented policyholders against insurance companies and has protected clients against theft of trade secrets.

Mr. Hilton believes that trial practice is the highest and most demanding calling in the practice of law. In choosing a litigation attorney, it is important to retain a skilled lawyer at the highest level of experience, professionalism and legal ethics. He has been called on to teach and lecture numerous times to other lawyers on trial practice, medical malpractice and health law and has served on the Professionalism Faculty of the Virginia State Bar. In addition, he is co-author of a chapter on Medical Malpractice published by the Virginia Continuing Legal Education Board to lawyers throughout Virginia. He chooses to live in Virginia so he can bring a personal touch to every case; yet, he goes to all lengths to investigate and prosecute every case he joins.

Mr. Hilton began his law practice in 1983 as a trial lawyer in the United States Army Judge Advocate General's Corps. He came to WAW in 1986 and has been listed repeatedly by Virginia Business Magazine as one of Virginia's Legal Elite and was recently named as one of the Best Lawyers in America in Medical Malpractice law. He is also recognized among the top 5% of actively practicing Virginia attorneys as a "Super Lawyer" in the area of Medical Malpractice. He is rated "AV" (highest rating) by Martindale-Hubble Legal Directory for ability and ethics.

Mr. Hilton is proud to have served as the President of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys, a statewide bar organization of over 800 members devoted to the improvement of civil trial practice. In that organization, he also served as Chairman of the Medical Malpractice Section. He is also a member, by invitation, of the Boyd-Grave Conference of the Virginia Bar Association, which promotes law reform throughout Virginia.

Mr. Hilton was born in North Carolina and is a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute with high honors and distinction; and, Wake Forest University Law School. Click here to download a copy of Mr. Hilton's resume.

Charles F. Hilton is a top notch lawyer. I have worked with him in the past and have had the opportunity to gauge his excellent legal accumen. He is one of the outstanding lawyers in his field.

  • 4.2/5.0 Rated by a Managing Partner on 08/03/12 in Civil Litigation

One of the better litigators in the area, but not well known in Harrisonburg because his practice at one time focused in the area of medical malpractice defense, thus giving him more of a state wide practice. All in all, a very solid attorney.
