Charlie King has done substantive work in national, high-profile cases

Hailing from New Orleans, attorney Charlie King has experience litigating all stages of negligent personal injury cases, including car crashes, premises liability, wrongful death, and cases against government actors under the Maine Tort Claims Act.

A formidable negotiator and highly skilled legal researcher and writer, Charlie has extensive experience in appellate litigation and motions practice. He has argued motions and appeals before the Maine Superior Court, the Maine Law Court, the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and various Louisiana state courts.

Following in his grandfather’s footsteps, Charlie knows that being a lawyer is about helping people. At Berman & Simmons, he works in collaboration with personal injury attorneys to strategize legal arguments that ensure that our clients’ stories are heard. But it’s more than the story. As a top-notch researcher, Charlie also ensures that our clients’ claims and arguments are supported by the proper legal basis that anticipates potential defenses and keeps cases in court where they belong.

Having presented legal writing to members of the Maine State Bar, Charlie believes that, at its core, good lawyering is good story-telling. Judges and juries are people too. He knows that he serves his clients best when he tells their stories plainly and truthfully. And he believes that the justice system, more often than not, is still made up of people who want to do good.

A Louisiana native, Charlie is excited to be a member of the Maine bar and the Lewiston-Auburn community

Charlie grew up in southeastern Louisiana before moving to Maine in 2022. He graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in physics and received his J.D. from Tulane University Law School in New Orleans in 2012. Following law school, he clerked for Justice James W. Kitchens of the Mississippi Supreme Court, where he saw first-hand how one person’s case can make a difference for everyone. He then spent several years practicing for a prominent personal injury firm in New Orleans, specializing in legal research and writing. He is admitted to practice before all Maine state courts, the United States District Court for the District of Maine, and the United States First Circuit Court of Appeals.
