Cheryl Smith Fisher

Cheryl Smith Fisher is counsel to Magavern Magavern Grimm LLP where she was a member from 1986 until 2015 practicing in the areas of employment law, commercial litigation, bankruptcy, and professional responsibility.

She completed a student federal judicial clerkship with the Hon. John T. Curtin. She served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of New York, handling both civil and criminal cases.

Professional & Community Associations

Ms. Fisher is a past president and director of the Bar Association of Erie County and is a past chair of the Ethics Committee. She chaired the Committee on Character and Fitness, Eighth Judicial District, for 12 years and has served a three year term as co-chair of the New York State Bar Association Committee on Professional Ethics. She is a former Vice President of the New York State Bar Association, where she served on the Executive Committee and House of Delegates, and a member of the Women's Bar Association. Ms. Fisher has been a presenter at many CLE programs in the areas of Ethics, Not-for-Profit Law, Commercial and Employment Law. She is Chancellor of the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York. In 1999, she received the Episcopal Community Services Bishop Lauriston L. Scaife Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service to the Community through an ECS Agency. Ms. Fisher is Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Health Foundation for Western and Central New York. Ms. Fisher is a past Chair of the board of Lord of Life Adult & Child Services, Inc. a child day care center, and an adult day care facility for those suffering from dementia and past chair of CMH Counseling, Inc. For more than 20 years Ms. Fisher was a member of the Board of Directors of Child and Family Services of Erie County, Inc., and is a past chair. In 2000, she received that board's John N. Walsh Jr. Board Appreciation Award for commitment to strengthening family life in Western New York.
