Christophe Leprêtre: Attorney with Keller and Heckman LLP

Biography

Christophe Leprêtre joined Keller and Heckman in August 2007. His principal areas of expertise are food safety risk analysis, food law and related international food standards. Mr. Leprêtre also spearheads the management of an international trade association in the food sector.

Prior to joining Keller and Heckman, Mr. Leprêtre was Regulatory Affairs Manager for the European Starch Industry Association (AAF) in Brussels, where he focused on legislation and issues relating to food and feed contaminants; food additives, enzymes, flavourings and processing aids; food contact materials and packaging; GMOs; health claims; food and nutrition labelling; biocides and other chemicals used in food processing.

Prior to AAF, Mr. Leprêtre worked with the French Ministry of Agriculture on a variety of food safety and labeling issues at the Food General Directorate ( DGAL) where he represented France before several European Union's bodies, such as the Council Working Parties on Foods and the Standing Committee of the Food Chain and Animal Health (SCoFCAH). In addition, he was actively involved with various international standards-making bodies such as the Codex Alimentarius Commission and subsidiary committees and the UNEP Biosafety Cartagena Protocol's Meetings Of the Parties and related working groups.

Mr. Leprêtre spent three years within the UN-FAO/WHO Codex Alimentarius Commission's Secretariat, where he gained substantial experience in the development and implementation of global food standards. Finally, he began his carrier with the French Food and Drink Industry Association (ANIA), where he received a prize delivered by the Société d'Encouragement de l'Industrie Nationale for his work relating to the impact of the 1997 Kyoto Protocol on sustainability and safety of the (frozen) food chain.
