About Attorney Awards

Biography

Chris is a native of New York and grew up on Long Island. He graduated from Fordham University in the Bronx in just three years with a BS in Psychology in 1987. He graduated from Hofstra University School of Law in 1990 and was a member of the Trial Club and Trial Team.Chris is a lifelong criminal defense attorney who began his career as a Staff Attorney at The Legal Aid Society’s Criminal Defense Division in Brooklyn, New York. He absolutely loved the life of a Public Defender Attorney. Brooklyn had night court until 1 AM, lots of action, and many, many wonderful lawyers inside and outside of the office that he learned from. It was in these early years that he shifted from his initial, singular focus on trial work to a lawyer who helps people and their families.

He moved to Maryland in 1998 and initially worked as the Legal Director of the grant-funded Lawyers at Bail Program, where he supervised a group of attorneys and paralegals, worked on law reform, and represented clients. He then opened another solo practice, and in 2006, he co-founded the partnership of Blackford and Flohr, LLC, which lasted until 2022. Chris has been a part-time Adjunct Faculty member of The University of Maryland King Carey School of Law since 2006. Since 2023, he has operated as The Law Office of Chris Flohr, LLC, along with his Legal Assistant and Wife, Margo. Recently, they welcomed Chris’s mentee, and Associate Attorney, Jayna Peterson, to the team.

Chris applied for and was accepted as a student at The National College of Criminal Defense (NCDC) in 1996, which was then located in Macon, Georgia. In 1999, he was accepted into the month-long training at The Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College (TLC), then located in Wyoming. Recently, Chris was invited and accepted to join the TLC faculty.
