Biography

Dan Sykes, as of January 1, 2019, has retired and become Of Counsel. Dan was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1975. Upon retirement, he switched to inactive status with the Bar. Prior to joining Karen Gordon in the formation of Gordon & Sykes, LLP in 2002, he was a shareholder and director in an established Fort Worth law firm.

Over the years, he represented clients in business and commercial transactions, with emphasis on real estate, franchising, and commercial and real estate lending. In the real estate sector, Mr. Sykes represented developers, urban and rural landowners, grantors of conservation easements, and commercial landlords and tenants. In commercial law, his experience ranged from the sale and acquisition of companies, organizational and planning issues for corporations, and limited liability companies and partnerships, to the representation of both start-up franchisors and established franchise systems, in the United States and beyond.

Mr. Sykes earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Austin College in 1972 and his law degree from The University of Texas School of Law in 1975, where he graduated with honors and served as a director of the Legal Research Board. He is an active member of the Fort Worth community, serving as an elder, trustee, and Mission Committee Chair at First Presbyterian Church, as a board member of the Fort Worth chapters of the Association for Retarded Citizens and Girls, Inc., and as Board President of the Presbyterian Night Shelter of Tarrant County. His wife, Jane, continually serves the community in many ways. They have been married for over 45 years and are proud parents and grandparents.
