Daniel B. Smith: Attorney with Morgan & Morgan

Biography

Dan Smith is originally from Kansas City and spent 20 years in Florida before returning to Midwest. He received his B.A. in business administration from William Jewll College, where he was also a four-year letterman, scholar athlete and team captain of the football team.

After graduation and being admitted to the Florida bar, Mr. Smith began his legal career as an assistant public defender in Miami-Dade County and gained significant trial experience in criminal law before switching his focus to civil litigation.

Since switching to civil litigation Mr. Smith has become one or more prolific medical provider attorneys in the country, having prosecuted 10,000+ lawsuits in Florida and Michigan’s state and federal courts against automobile and healthcare insurance companies. He has dozens of Westlaw published opinions helping medical providers avoid ERISA preemption of state law claims against health insurance companies.

Mr. Smith joined Morgan & Morgan’s Tampa office in 2008 and is currently a partner in the Detroit office. He lives in the Detroit area with his wife Katie and daughters Ivy and Julia.
