Biography

With a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, David Japha has garnered a reputation for adeptly resolving intricate and challenging legal matters, often stepping in as the second or third attorney on a case. His extensive experience encompasses a broad spectrum of criminal and civil litigation, including trials to conclusion, appellate advocacy, post-conviction cases, and matters involving mental health issues. Currently, David represents clients in federal and state administrative proceedings, including ongoing engagements before the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

David's journey in litigation began during his tenure at the University of Denver College of Law, where he gained hands-on experience trying his first DUI case in state court through the student law office program. Even before graduating in May 1984, he negotiated settlements and argued administrative appeals before the Social Security Administration. David's early career saw him sharing office space with his current partners, Don Jacobson and Daniel Levin, at Ptarmigan Place. There, he honed his skills in law office management, handling a diverse caseload ranging from evictions and collections to court-appointed federal criminal cases. It was in federal court where David thrived in criminal defense litigation, earning him an appointment to the Criminal Justice Act committee by then-Chief Judge Richard Matsch.

Throughout his illustrious career, David has been involved in remarkable cases, including conducting depositions in Katmandu, Nepal, representing a witness in the trial of Timothy McVeigh, and handling criminal matters across multiple states. He has also served as an expert witness for the Colorado Supreme Court Office of Regulation Counsel, providing insights into attorney fees for court-appointed counsel. David's unwavering dedication to his clients and his proven track record of success underscore his standing as a respected figure in the legal community.
