Biography

David Langston is a native and life-long resident of North Alabama with deep roots in the area. David graduated with honors from the University of North Alabama in 1990 and from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 1993. He returned to North Alabama after law school and began his career as a prosecutor with the Morgan County District Attorney. After gaining invaluable trial experience there, David joined the firm of Harris, Caddell & Shanks, P.C. in 1996. He practices regularly in the following areas: civil litigation, business litigation, commercial law, public utilities law, insurance defense, and representation of governmental entities.

David regularly represents clients in state and federal courts in northern Alabama. He has extensive experience providing defense representation for insurance companies, privately held companies, public utilities, and governmental entities. He also regularly advises small and large businesses on various legal issues that arise in day-to-day operations and also in matters that carry over into court. David has an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell, an attorney rating service. He is a member of the Alabama State Bar Association, the Alabama Defense Lawyer’s Association, and the Defense Research Institute. He currently serves as the Alabama State Bar Commissioner for the 8th Judicial Circuit. David is also the Municipal Judge for the City of Hartselle, Alabama.

On the personal side, David lives in Hartselle with his wife (Jan) of almost 30 years. They are extremely proud of their two sons, Holden and Ryan, one of whom is a graduate of Mississippi State University and the other a graduate of Auburn University. David is or has been active in a number of civic organizations through the years including the Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce (Past Chairman 2002-2003), Volunteer Center of Morgan County (Former Member, Board of Directors), Mental Health Association (Former Member, Board of Directors), and the Community Free Clinic – Decatur (Member, Board of Directors).
