Biography

Attorney Deena Buchanan brings more than 20 years of experience, thoughtfulness and a commitment to strong advocacy to every case she handles. Our offices are in Albuquerque, but we will travel to meet with you face-to-face anywhere in New Mexico.

Deena has been a trial attorney since she was admitted to practice, and she’s earned high regards from judges, clients and other attorneys. She’s known for her thorough preparation, her oral advocacy skills during trial proceedings, and her poise and composure in any situation. She’s been trial counsel on employment, personal injury and business dispute cases, including wrongful death actions. She’s also represented insurance companies and major corporations, so she knows what to expect from the other side.

Though she has considerable experience in a number of jurisdictions, Deena focuses her current practice on controversies arising in New Mexico. She has a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the laws and procedures in New Mexico, as well as local trial practice.

Deena is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and the Georgetown University Law Center. After matriculating from law school with honors in 1998, she moved to New Mexico, working for a large law practice in Albuquerque. She subsequently worked for a Fortune 500 company in Philadelphia and for other large law firms, where she worked on a number of cases that garnered national coverage. Deena returned to New Mexico in 2008, opening Buchanan Law in 2019 to provide top-tier representation to individuals in employment and personal injury matters. She also represents small businesses in commercial litigation and other matters.

For more than 20 years, Deena has focused her practice on employment law, personal injury and commercial litigation. Because she’s represented companies and employees, she has a unique perspective and can often anticipate the strategies of her opponents. Deena has received an “AV-Preeminent” rating by her colleagues in the legal profession under Martindale-Hubbell’s Peer Review Rating System. She’s an active member of the New Mexico Association of Trial Lawyers, the National Employment Lawyer’s Association, and the American Bar Association’s Solo and Small Firm Section. She also gets great satisfaction from coaching and mentoring new attorneys.

Deena has a deep love for the landscape in New Mexico and across the American Southwest. You can find her hiking the trails here, skiing with her family, capturing nature with her camera, or even casting a fly on occasion. She shares her time between Albuquerque and Santa Fe.
