Biography

D. K. Trotter is a fifth generation Texan, and was born and raised in the Lubbock area. While Ms. Trotter graduated from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2017, she has worked in the legal field for many years in litigation and general practice areas with large and small firms in Lubbock, including McCleskey, Harriger, Brazill & Graf, LLP; Murchison, Hund & Harriger, LLP; Hund & Harriger, LLP; Field, Manning, Stone, Hawthorne & Aycock, LLP; and the Bustos Law Firm, P.C.During her time at Texas Tech University School of Law, Ms. Trotter received distinction awards in Torts and Legal Research; she was a writer for the Texas Bank Lawyer, received a Pro Bono Honors Award, and participated in the Advanced Alternative Dispute Resolution Clinic. Ms. Trotter has volunteered with many area organizations, including Girls Scouts of the USA, Lubbock Art Association, West Texas Paralegal Association, the Paralegal Division of the State Bar of Texas, the American Association of University Women (AAUW), and the Red Mass Committee. Ms. Trotter has served on the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund Committee based in Washington, D.C., and is the Chair of The Women’s Memorial – NHFFLSA (Notable Historic Female Figures from Lubbock and the Surrounding Area). She is a member of The Sedona Conference, the Lubbock Women’s Club, Austin’s Old 300, the Texas State Genealogical Society, Canyon United Methodist Church, and she has been selected to participate in the 2018 Lubbock Chamber of Commerce Leadership Lubbock program.Ms. Trotter is qualified to serve as a neutral third party under the Texas Civil Practices and Remedies Code, having completed 40-hours of basic mediation training and 24-hours of family mediation training. Ms. Trotter’s practice areas include Estate Planning & Probate, Real Estate, Trust, and Elder Law; Business Law and Agriculture Law, including transition planning; and Information and Knowledge Management, Security, and Research, including eDiscovery and Forensic Genealogy. In addition to her Juris Doctor, Ms. Trotter holds a Master’s Degree in Information Science from the University of North Texas, and a Bachelor of Science in Occupation Education Degree from Wayland Baptist University.
