Biography

Dennis M. Mersberger is a founding partner of Schmergel & Mersberger, PLC, established in 2004 to provide exceptional criminal defense representation. Originally from the Philadelphia area, Mr. Mersberger has made Alexandria, Virginia his home, dedicating his practice almost exclusively to criminal trials and appeals in both state and federal courts. With over 20 years of criminal and traffic defense experience, he has represented clients across Northern Virginia, including Alexandria City, Arlington, Fairfax, Falls Church, Loudoun, Prince William, Stafford, and federally in the Eastern District of Virginia. Renowned for his zealous advocacy, Mr. Mersberger has successfully defended adults and juveniles facing criminal and traffic charges, and has also argued matters before the Virginia Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Virginia. He is an active member of the Virginia State Bar’s Criminal Law Section, the Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and has served as Policy Board Chair for the Alexandria Alcohol Safety Action Program. Mr. Mersberger earned his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law and a B.A. in English Literature from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania.
