Derek A. Patrin has focused his practice on DWI defense
since 2001 and has handled thousands of DWI matters across Minnesota. A 1998
cum laude graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School, Derek began his
career at Rider, Bennett, Egan & Arundel before leaving to concentrate on
representing individuals. He later joined Gerald Miller & Associates, where
he handled hundreds more DWI cases. Derek’s work has been recognized by
Minnesota Law & Politics, which named him a “Rising Star” in 2005, and his
victory in the Minnesota Court of Appeals DWI license-revocation case Jones v.
Commissioner of Public Safety was featured in a Minnesota Lawyer cover story. Known
for practical, client-centered advocacy, he focuses on preserving jobs and
family stability while protecting constitutional rights in the face of
increasingly harsh DWI penalties.
