Dolores Marie Scheller: Attorney with Horowitz Law

Biography

DeeDee Scheller brings a wealth of experience as a former sex crimes prosecutor and civil litigation attorney to Horowitz Law.

DeeDee Scheller’s practice is dedicated to pursuing justice for victims and survivors of sexual abuse.

DeeDee began her legal career by serving the citizens of Broward County as an Assistant State Attorney in the 17th Judicial Circuit for close to five years. During that time, she tried approximately 50 jury trials. At the State Attorney’s Office, DeeDee rose the ranks to the Felony Trial Unit where she prosecuted thousands of serious violent felonies punishable by up to life in prison, including crimes involving domestic violence, armed robbery, drug trafficking, and murder. DeeDee successfully obtained a guilty verdict at trial in a media case in which the defendant was charged with attempted murder of a young female in a public park. DeeDee was then promoted to special unit prosecutor in the highly coveted Sexual Battery and Child Abuse Unit, where she investigated and prosecuted cases such as sexual battery, lewd and lascivious molestation, and aggravated child abuse.

Throughout DeeDee’s career, she has worked closely with law enforcement, including the FBI, to bring justice to victims and their families. It is through her work as a special unit prosecutor that she realized her true passion lies in representing the victims and survivors of sexual abuse. She has earned the reputation as a tough trial lawyer who will fight for justice.

After serving in the public sector, DeeDee joined one of Florida’s largest civil litigation firms where she focused her practice on products liability, premises liability, wrongful death, and automobile negligence. This experience has given DeeDee invaluable insight on how to effectively litigate cases against corporate defendants, insurance companies, and other large entities.

At Horowitz Law, DeeDee has represented victims of sexual abuse in lawsuits against religious institutions, medical practices, massage establishments, private and public schools, and professional athletes. She also has significant success in pre-suit litigation and can effectively settle claims before a lawsuit is filed.

DeeDee attended the University of Central Florida where she received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, graduating Cum Laude from the Burnett Honors College in 2011. She went on to obtain her Juris Doctor from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 2014. During her time in law school, DeeDee was an active member of the prestigious Florida Moot Court Team. DeeDee also had the honor of presenting oral arguments in a case presided over by the Justices of The Florida Supreme Court. In 2013, she earned the book award for Interviewing, Counseling, and Negotiating. Upon graduating with honors, she was inducted into the National Order of the Barristers for outstanding oral advocacy.

DeeDee is a South Florida native. She currently lives in Fort Lauderdale and is a member of the National Crime Victim Bar Association and Broward County Trial Lawyers. In her free time, DeeDee enjoys mentoring young lawyers and law students. She also loves to travel and spent a semester abroad in Florence, Italy.

DeeDee is admitted to practice in Florida (2014).
