Biography

Donald Katz has 40 years of experience providing legal services and counsel to individuals and businesses in New Jersey. Mr. Katz helps his clients with a wide range of legal matters, but spends most of his time in the areas of commercial and residential real estate, the full representation of small and medium size businesses and estate planning and administration. He has been of counsel to the firm since 1995 and previously was a partner in a major statewide law firm for 15 years.

Don graduated from Rutgers College of Rutgers, The State University in 1970 with an A.B. in Business Administration, where he was selected as a member of the Rutgers Economics Honor Society. He subsequently received his law degree in 1973 from New York University School of Law. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey, in the Third Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and is also admitted to practice before the U. S. Supreme Court. He is member of the Middlesex County Bar Association and is the long time co-chair of its Real Estate Committee. He is also a member of the both the New Jersey and American Bar Associations and the Business and Real Property, Probate and Trust Law sections or committees of both bar associations. A past justice (president) of his law school chapter of Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity International, he presently serves as treasurer of its New Jersey alumni chapter.

In addition to the practice of law, Don also has a long history of leadership in community and charitable service. Don, an Eagle Scout with more than 57 years service in the Boy Scouts, and the recipient of numerous scouting awards and recognitions, presently serves as a member of the board of directors of the Central New Jersey Council of the Boy Scouts of America and formerly served as its counsel.

After doing the volunteer legal work to merge the two Jewish Federations in Middlesex County, he served for many years on the board of the Jewish Federation of Greater Middlesex County and subsequently served on the board of the Perth Amboy based, Jewish Renaissance Foundation.

Don was a member of the board of directors and a committee chair of the East Brunswick Regional Chamber of Commerce and an officer and director of the East Brunswick Regional Chamber of Commerce Charitable Foundation.

After having completed the formation of what was then called Blue Badge Association #1, and is now called the Middlesex County 200 Club, (a charitable support group for police, fire fighters and other public safety officers/ “first responders”), in 1974, he has served as its counsel since that time.

Don is a life member of Mensa as well as of Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity.

Don also has a long leadership involvement in both government and political service. He is the former chairman and commissioner of the East Brunswick Sewerage Authority, the former vice chair of the New Jersey State Council on Local Mandates and he presently serves as a commissioner of the Middlesex County Board of Elections. Since 1992 he has been the elected Republican State Committeeman representing Middlesex County on the New Jersey Republican State Committee and he has been counsel to the Middlesex County Republican Organization for approximately 25 years.

Don, born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey and a resident of Middlesex County his entire life, presently lives in East Brunswick with his wife, Sue.
