Donald Knecht, Jr, graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1990. In 2000, Don earned his Juris Doctorate from Loyola University New Orleans School of Law, where he graduated cum laude. Don served as the managing editor of Loyola Law Review. Don won Faculty Awards for the highest grade in Advanced Legal Writing, Civil Law of Persons, Sales, and Leases, & Trademark, Tradename & Unfair Trade Practices. He was named the 2000 Professor William L. Crowe, Sr., Scholar.
Don served in the Lafayette Police Department as a patrol officer and a detective for six years. As a law enforcement officer, Don conducted homicide, rape, armed robbery, burglary, theft, and forgery investigations. Don served as an administrative law adjudicator for the Better Business Bureau, where he presided over hearings and rendered decisions in cases involving disputes under the Louisiana Automobile Lemon Law. As a private attorney, Don has focused his law practice on commercial litigation, ERISA, business litigation, intellectual property law, construction law, personal injury, evictions, and legal ethics. Since 2015, Don has served as an Assistant District Attorney for the 15th Judicial District where he has prosecuted traffic violations and felonies.
