Mr. Douglas C. Monsour

Douglas C. Monsour, also known as Doug Monsour, is a highly accomplished trial lawyer who handles significant injury cases in Texas and nationwide. His areas of expertise include pharmaceutical litigation, medical device cases, mass tort product liability cases, and representing injured oil field workers, victims of 18-wheeler wrecks, industrial accident victims, and those who have suffered severe burns.

Notable Trial Successes:

In November 2014, Doug served as the lead lawyer in a transvaginal mesh case involving four women who were implanted with the Obtryx sling system for stress urinary incontinence. After a nearly month-long trial, the jury awarded the plaintiffs a verdict of $18.5 million. This marked the first verdict against Boston Scientific in the Federal Multi-District Litigation (MDL) for any of its incontinence sling products (Wilson et al v. Boston Scientific Corp., WV, MDL 2326).

In 2004, Doug demonstrated his trial skills in two significant Fen-Phen cases against pharmaceutical giant Wyeth. In the first case, Wyeth hired renowned defense lawyer Dan Webb from Winston & Strawn to represent them. However, in the third week of the trial, Wyeth settled for a confidential sum. In the second case, Wyeth retained Houston mega-firm Vinson & Elkins, but once again, they settled for a confidential sum just before closing arguments.

In addition to these trials, Doug has tried over thirty cases encompassing various types of claims, including oil field injuries, defective drugs, defective medical devices, medical malpractice, trucking (18-wheeler) wrecks, industrial accidents, car wrecks, civil rights, and malicious prosecution.

Awards and Certifications:

Doug is triple board certified. He is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is also Board Certified as a Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and Board Certified in Civil Pretrial Practice Advocacy by the National Board of Civil Pretrial Practice Advocacy.

In 2000, Doug became a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, an organization reserved for lawyers who have secured more than $1,000,000 in a single case. He has been recognized as a "Rising Star" Lawyer in Texas by Texas Monthly magazine in 2004, 2007, 2008, and 2009. Since 2009 through 2022, he has been selected as a Super Lawyer in Texas Monthly magazine every year. Additionally, he has been voted the Best Lawyer in Longview, Texas by the Longview News-Journal.

Leadership Roles and Appointments:

Doug's legal abilities have been acknowledged by judges across the country, leading to his appointment in various significant litigations.

Currently, he serves on the Executive Committee for the 3M Combat Arms version 2 earplug litigation, appointed by U.S. District Judge M. Casey Rodgers. Doug is also the Chair of the Science & Experts Subcommittee for this case. His work includes corporate and expert depositions, as well as developing the plaintiffs' slate of experts.

In the past, he has held appointed positions such as serving on the Plaintiff's Liaison Committee for Fen-Phen Region 1 in 2001 and being a member of the Plaintiff's Steering Committee for In re Trasylol Litigation in 2008. He was also appointed to the Plaintiff's Steering Committee for MDL 2172: In re: Zimmer NexGen Knee Products Liability Litigation in 2011 and the Plaintiffs' Steering Committee for the Transvaginal Mesh Litigation in 2012.

Family:

Since 1994, Doug has been married to Sarah Lenhart. They have three children together, two sons and a daughter. Doug has coached his sons in T-ball, baseball, basketball, and soccer. Hunting with his sons, spending time at the lake, traveling, and being a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan are some of his favorite activities with his family. All three of Doug's children attend or have graduated from the University of Texas in Austin, and Sarah Monsour is also a Longhorn. As expected, Doug is a dedicated Longhorn fan himself.
