Douglas R. Williams: Attorney with BoatLaw, LLP

Biography

Douglas R. Williams is an experienced maritime attorney at BoatLaw, LLP, where he focuses on representing injured seamen. Doug grew up in a military family. He spent much of his youth aboard cruise ships where his father served as chief medical officer for major lines like Holland America and Disney Cruise Line after retiring from the armed forces. This early exposure gave Doug a practical understanding of the maritime industry. Doug earned his undergraduate degree from Washington & Lee University and graduated magna cum laude from Florida State University College of Law; he obtained top honors in Admiralty Law and was admitted into the Order of the Coif for his scholastic achievements.

Doug began his legal career with a prominent maritime litigation firm in Tampa, Florida, handling casualty litigation, maritime liens, and charter disputes. He played a key role in significant maritime cases, including Atlantic Sounding Co. v. Townsend , which strengthened the right of seamen to pursue punitive damages. After relocating to Washington in 2011, Doug joined BoatLaw, LLP in 2012, dedicating his practice to maritime injury cases. Doug combines his extensive industry knowledge and trial experience to advocate for his clients. He is a member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States and serves as the Chairman of the Maritime Section of the Washington State Association for Justice.
