Edward F. (Ted) Murphy

Edward “Ted” Murphy is Of Counsel with O’Connell & Aronowitz and a member of the firm’s Divorce, Family & Matrimonial practice. An attorney since 2006, Ted brings nearly two decades of experience representing and advising individuals and families through challenging legal matters.

Ted’s practice focuses on family and matrimonial matters, where he works closely with clients facing some of the most personal and consequential issues in their lives. Drawing on his broad background in family, criminal and civil law, Ted approaches each matter with a practical perspective and an understanding that every client’s circumstances are different. He strives to make the legal process understandable and manageable while helping clients make informed decisions about their families and their futures.

Before joining O’Connell & Aronowitz, Ted practiced with a Capital Region law firm, where he handled family and matrimonial matters as well as criminal cases. Earlier in his career, he maintained his own law practice, representing and counseling clients in family, criminal and civil matters. He also served on two occasions as a Special Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney for the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.

Ted began his legal career in Connecticut, where he gained valuable insight into the judicial system through clerkships with the Connecticut Judicial Branch and the Connecticut public defender system for juveniles. Those experiences, together with his years in private practice, have given him a well-rounded perspective on both the legal and personal considerations that can arise in family law matters.

Before becoming an attorney, Ted worked as both a teacher and a computer network engineer. His varied professional background contributes to the practical, thoughtful approach he brings to his work and his ability to communicate complex issues in a clear and accessible way.
