Attorney Hartwig has been certified by the Supreme Court of Ohio to represent defendants as Trial Co-Counsel in death penalty cases. His recognitions include being rated a 10.0 Superb by Avvo, which is the highest rating an attorney can receive from client ratings and reviews. He has also been named Clients' Choice Award by Avvo for seven years in a row, from 2013-2019.
Attorney Hartwig is recognized in Ohio Super Lawyers® magazine in both 2012 and 2013 in the list of Rising Stars℠, naming him one of the top 1.5% of lawyers in his region and practice areas. He is also a member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum® for personal injury and for having been lead counsel on at least one case that resulted in a multi-million dollar verdict or settlement.
Education and Background
A native of the Mahoning Valley, Edward J. Hartwig graduated from South Range High School before attending John Carroll University (B.S., cum laude, 1995). There, he played baseball and was a member of the Psi Chi National Honor Society. He earned his law degree from The University of Akron School of Law in 1998 and was the recipient of the CALI experience for Trial Advocacy Award.

Currently, Attorney Hartwig is a member of the Mahoning County Bar Association, where he served as President from 2013-2014, and he currently serves on the Board of Trustees. He is a past co-chairman and current member of the Young Lawyers/Banquet Committee and grievance committee.
