Biography

Emily Jordan "E.J." Hammann is a Partner and trial attorney at Brown & Barron with more than 20 years concentrating almost exclusively on medical malpractice matters. In her second year with the firm she served as trial counsel in two plaintiffs’ verdicts (one for $8.5 million and one for $8.3 million) and most recently obtained a $35 million plaintiffs’ verdict. Having defended physicians, hospitals, and worked for medical malpractice carriers, E.J. combines courtroom skill with a deep understanding of the healthcare and insurance systems to advocate for clients harmed by medical negligence or nursing home abuse. She was part of the team on a large over-stenting class action and has unique skills in cardiac cases, anesthesia complications, birth injuries, missed strokes, emergency care, plastic surgery negligence, and a broad range of surgical complications. Admitted in Maryland state and federal courts and the District of Columbia, she is a member of the Maryland Association for Justice, the Maryland Bar Association, and the Women’s Bar Association of Maryland. E.J. earned her J.D. from The George Washington University Law School, where she served on the Environmental Law Journal.
