Biography

Emily McKenzie, an Associate Attorney in the family-based department at Wilner & O’Reilly, APLC's Salt Lake City office, embarked on her legal journey at Florida A&M in Orlando, Florida. Transferring to the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, she actively participated in their immigration clinic for two semesters, ultimately earning her Juris Doctorate in 2009.

During law school, Ms. McKenzie interned at Catholic Community Services of Utah, where her dedication led to an early graduation offer and subsequent employment. Balancing her commitment to studying for the Utah bar in 2010, she immersed herself in a myriad of cases, showcasing her versatility at the non-profit organization. While her primary focus was on Naturalization, Ms. McKenzie tackled a spectrum of cases, ranging from adjustment of status to special immigrant juvenile, asylum, refugee permanent resident cases, and, before joining Wilner & O’Reilly, a federal grant with a focus on U visa, T Visa, VAWA cases, and assistance in Unaccompanied Minor cases.

Ms. McKenzie's professional journey includes significant roles such as Senior Immigration Attorney at Catholic Community Services of Utah from 2019 to 2022 and Holy Cross Ministries from 2017 to 2019. She previously served as an Immigration Attorney at Catholic Community Services of Utah from 2010 to 2017.

Actively involved in the legal community, Ms. McKenzie has been a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association from 2010 to 2022.

In her leisure moments, Ms. McKenzie finds joy in watching, arguing about, and occasionally shedding tears over soccer. She also embraces activities like running, tennis, swimming, and exploring new restaurants in Salt Lake City. Recognized as the "cool" aunt to 22 nieces and nephews, she recently welcomed a great niece and nephew into the family.
