Biography

Emma Hawley advises companies on patent prosecution, intellectual property portfolio management, regulatory compliance for commercial products, and IP due diligence in corporate transactions. Before practicing law, Emma worked in quality and regulatory roles in the medical device industry, supporting audits and compliance for commercial products.

Emma’s patent practice includes drafting patent applications, responding to Office Actions, and preparing petitions in inter partes review. She manages portfolios by assessing patentability and infringement risk, and she develops and refines non-infringement positions aligned with clients’ business goals.

She also researches statutes, regulations, and policies affecting products in regulated markets and advises on compliance and pathways to bring products to market.

In corporate transactions, Emma conducts intellectual property diligence for mergers and acquisitions across the industries she serves.

Earlier in her career, Emma worked in medical device quality and regulatory functions, where she drafted inspection procedures, integrated acquired product lines into quality systems, and analyzed post-market performance data. She supported internal and external audits with national and international bodies, including the FDA, TuV, BSI, MDSAP, and under the EU MDR framework, and is ISO 13485:2015 certified and trained in Medical Device Management Systems.
