Education and Early Career
Ethan Sumida is an associate attorney at Johnson Law Group who is dedicated to providing exceptional legal representation to his clients. Originally from Hawaii, Ethan decided to pursue a career in law to serve his community. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Hawaii at Manoa before obtaining his Juris Doctorate from Washburn University in 2021.
Active Engagement and Leadership
During his time at Washburn, Ethan showcased his commitment to the legal community by actively participating in various roles. He interned at the Washburn Law Clinic, gaining invaluable practical experience. Additionally, Ethan served as President of the Asian American Law Student Association, demonstrating his leadership skills and commitment to diversity within the legal field.
Advocate for Change
His involvement extended beyond student organizations as he represented his peers as the 2L and 3L Class Representative. He also contributed his insights and leadership skills to the Diversity Forum Planning Committee and the Student Bar Association Budget Committee, aiming to effect positive change within the legal education system.
Path to Family Law
Ethan got into family law because he recognized that it was an area where people often struggled to navigate the legal system on their own, and he wanted to be able to provide that service for them. His background in communications and writing helps him connect with clients and advocate for them effectively in the courtroom.
Specialized Expertise in Domestic Relations
Ethan has focused his practice on assisting clients in navigating a wide range of domestic relations issues. His areas of expertise include divorce, legal separation, allocation of parental responsibilities, modification of parenting time and child support, contempt proceedings, protection orders, disputed parenting time, adoptions, and emergency motions to restrict parenting time.
Professional Philosophy
Ethan approaches each case by talking to each client, figuring out their goals and needs, and helping them along the journey with the least amount of conflict in between. His message to potential clients is that it's never too early to contact an attorney. Something that seems relatively easy to handle at first can easily snowball out of control. With Ethan as your attorney, you will get empathy, compassion, and diligence.
Outside of the Courtroom
Outside of his legal endeavors, Ethan enjoys pursuing his passions for golf and basketball, fishing knee-deep in rivers, and spending time with family, friends, and his dog. His diverse interests and experiences contribute to his well-rounded approach to life and the law.
