Meet Ezra A.R. Willey, an accomplished attorney and the
latest addition to Willey Law Offices. While his journey to the legal
profession was unique, Ezra's diverse background has enriched his advocacy and
dedication to his clients.
Graduating from Roger Williams University, School of Law in 2012, Ezra
initially pursued a different career path as a professional glassblower and
glassblowing equipment manufacturer. Additionally, he found joy in teaching
glassblowing at various levels. However, Hurricane Katrina altered his life,
compelling Ezra and his wife to start anew, leading him to pursue a career in
legal advocacy.
Today, Ezra is a licensed attorney in both Maine and Massachusetts, with
additional recognition from the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine
and the U.S. First Circuit Court of Appeals. He was sworn into the Bar of the
U.S. Virgin Islands on November 15, 2016. Specializing in litigation, Ezra's
scope of practice extends to various legal avenues. Notably, he is accredited
by the Department of Veteran's Affairs, serving as a Veteran’s Attorney, adept
in handling Veteran Benefit Appeals and practicing in front of the U.S. Court
of Appeals for Veteran's Claims. This reflects his commitment to assisting
veterans and their legal needs.
One of Ezra's passions lies in acting as a Guardian ad Litem, skillfully
representing the interests of children involved in Family Matters and
Protective Custody cases. He strongly believes in giving these children a voice
in court proceedings and ensuring they are placed in the safest environment to
flourish.
Ezra's active engagement in professional associations demonstrates his
dedication to the legal community. He is a member of the American Bar
Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Penobscot County Bar
Association (where he currently serves as President), and the Hancock County
Bar Association. Additionally, he is affiliated with various specialized
associations like the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the
Maine Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the John Waldo Ballou Inn of
Court.
Beyond his legal practice, Ezra continues to contribute to the community. He
holds prominent positions in the Maine State Bar Association, serving on the
Board of Governors and representing Penobscot County. Furthermore, Ezra actively
participates in organizations that promote access to justice for underserved
individuals. He serves as President and Treasurer of the Maine High School Mock
Trial Program, empowering young minds to understand the legal system, and sits
on the Board of Directors for the Volunteer Lawyer's Project, which provides
pro bono legal services to Maine's underserved population.
Outside the courtroom, Ezra cherishes time spent with his family. He resides in
Bangor with his wife and two daughters, finding joy in exploring Maine's
natural beauty through gardening, hiking, boating, skiing, and other outdoor
pursuits.
With a diverse background, unwavering dedication to his clients, and a
commitment to community service, Ezra A.R. Willey epitomizes the essence of a
compassionate and skilled attorney.
