Biography

Fred Fohrell is a shareholder in the Huntsville office of Wilmer & Lee, P.A. He has been selected multiple times to The Best Lawyers in America, and Alabama Super Lawyers. He has received an AV Rating in legal ability and ethical standards from Martindale-Hubbell for more than a decade. He has been a frequent speaker at state and national workers' compensation seminars.

Fred currently serves on the Wilmer & Lee, P.A. Board of Governors, which supervises the firm's more than 70 employees in three locations. His employment at Wilmer & Lee, P.A. began in 1993. He has served as the President of the Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association, Chair of the Alabama State Bar Worker's Compensation Section, and a member of the Alabama Department oflndustrial Relations Legal Advisory Committee within the Workers' Compensation Division. He was asked to present the workers' compensation case law update to the Alabama Circuit Court Judges at their state conference.

Prior to joining the firm in 1992, Fred served as Chief Assistant District Attorney for Madison County, Alabama. Before joining the District Attorney's office, Fred worked in the State of Alabama Governor's office, serving as Deputy Legal Advisor and as the Governor's Administrative Assistant for Family Affairs, in which capacity he was a liaison between Governor Hunt and various interest groups.

Fred has also been active in his community. He currently serves on the Calhoun College Foundation Board and as Co-Chair of the Northeast Alabama Fellowship of Christian Athletes Advisory Board. He was instrumental in starting the Northeast Alabama FCA Board more than ten years ago. He has also served as a Young Life volunteer leader, a member of the Downtown Huntsville Rotary Club, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Business Legal Studies at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He has also completed the Federal Bureau of Investigation Citizens Academy Program.

Fred obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1981. He was on the winning team in the Moot Court Competition and named the Outstanding Oral Advocate in the final round presided over by a panel including then United States Supreme Court Justice William H. Rehnquist. He was selected to the University of Alabama School of Law National Moot Court Competition Team and co-authored the Best Brief at the Thirty-First Annual National Moot Court Competition held in New York City in 1981. He was also selected for membership in the Bench and Bar Legal Honor Society and the Order of Barristers.

Fred obtained his Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Business Administration in 1978 from the University of Alabama. As an undergraduate, he served as Chief Justice of the Student Court. He was selected to honorary groups including Omicron Delta Kappa and Mortar Board. He attended undergraduate school on a debate scholarship and for three consecutive years qualified for the National Debate Tournament as a member of the University of Alabama Intercollegiate Debate Squad.
