Biography

Gene Williams has extensive experience representing clients in both state and federal court in a wide range of legal matters. He has litigated more than 100 class actions in both state and federal court. Gene also specializes in general business litigation, as well as cases involving trademark/trade dress and unfair competition.

Gene's litigation experience includes:

•Successfully defeated class certification in two multi-million dollar nationwide class actions alleging false advertising and unfair business practices against a client in the vitamin and nutraceutical industry;
•Successfully obtained a dismissal of a multi-million dollar California class action alleging false adverting and unfair business practices;
•Obtained more than $70 million in class action settlements for class members in wage and hour and consumer fraud actions, including the successful mediation of more than 35 class actions;
•Obtained both injunctive and monetary relief of $10 million against a video game resale store chain on behalf of a class of approximately one million people;
•Served as first chair in a multi-million dollar federal jury trial for breach of contract and fraud involving a motion picture dispute, and successfully argued a motion for judgment notwithstanding the verdict;
•Defeated a summary judgment motion filed by defendants in a breach of contract and fraud claim seeking $100 million arising from the acquisition of Fox Mobile Group. The case settled on confidential terms in 2014.
•Obtained summary judgment on behalf of a high-profile individual in a bankruptcy adversary proceeding and received an award of $240, 000 in attorney's fees;
•Obtained a dismissal of a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the band Motley Crue alleging breach of contract, fraud and numerous other claims;
•Obtained a settlement resulting in no liability for client sued for trade secret misappropriation and unfair competition relating to source code for an internet search engine; and
•Successfully defended fashion designer against breach of contract and trade dress/trade secret misappropriation claims and obtained a settlement that resulted in no liability for the client.

Prior to joining Miller Barondess, Gene started his career as a litigation associate at the Los Angeles office of Kirkland & Ellis.

Gene received his Juris Doctorate from the University of California Los Angeles School of Law in 2000, where he was a member of the Moot Court Board and was named best team in the school's annual Moot Court competition. He received a Bachelor's Degree in History from the University of California Los Angeles in 1997.
