Biography

Gina M. Corena is a distinguished lawyer based in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ranked in the “Top 40 under 40” in 2017, Ms. Corena is a leading attorney in the fields of personal injury and bankruptcy. With ten years of professional experience, she is a founding member and managing partner of Gina Corena & Associates.

Ms. Corena always loved helping people, and that drove her decision to apply to law school. As she tells it, it was the potential of making a difference in people’s live that has inspired her choice of specialty:

“In personal injury law, I have the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives and help them turn bad circumstances around. And in Nevada in particular, I have been able to make a significant difference in the field of bankruptcy, because the downturn in the economy hit families particularly hard here.”

Ms. Corena earned her bachelor’s degree from Loyola University in New Orleans. She obtained her Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2007 and passed the Nevada Bar that same year. Before opening up her current firm she represented creditors and insurance companies in general commercial, construction defect, bankruptcy, and personal injury matters, giving her important experience and a diverse perspective that serves her well in her current role.

Since its founding, Ms. Corena has established her firm on a platform of excellent customer service and meticulous attention to detail and has achieved spectacular results on behalf of her clients time and time again as a result.

In the area of personal injury, she focuses on motor vehicle accidents, helping victims deal with medical bills and lost wages. Her background as an insurance defense attorney helps Ms. Corena understand the inner workings of insurance companies and their defense strategies, giving her an insider’s perspective when advocating for her personal injury clients’ rights. She is dedicated to providing clients top-notch service and maintaining her reputation as an industry expert, and as such attends numerous seminars on topics ranging from medical treatment to litigation strategy.

Within bankruptcy, Ms. Corena focuses her practice on clients affected by the downturn in the Las Vegas real estate market. She deals with Chapter 11, 13, and 7 bankruptcy proceedings. With over ten years of experience working for creditors, Ms. Corena is able to help her clients navigate through the legal intricacies of bankruptcy with ease. Though she has developed strategies that satisfy all parties with limited litigation, she also has the litigation skills necessary to fight for her clients’ interests in the courtroom in more complicated situations.

“In the Ninth Circuit, there is something called the Absolute Priority Rule in Chapter 11 cases, which states that creditors must be paid off before shareholders. I represent mostly individuals in bankruptcy proceedings, so I’m currently paying attention to how changes within the application of the Absolute Priority Rule affect individuals.”

In the decade since starting her legal career, Ms. Corena has established a reputation as a skilled and passionate client advocate. Looking ahead, she envisions a bright future in the years to come and hopes to try at least five cases per year.
