Biography

With extensive experience advising growing and mid-sized businesses, Gordon and his firm provide personalized legal counsel across a range of areas, including trademark prosecution and protection, both domestic and international, copyright, intellectual property licensing, employment, corporate transactions, litigation involving trademark, copyright, and related business disputes, compliance with domestic and international data privacy laws, as well as defense work in the area of consumer class actions including WCAG/ADA compliance, state privacy laws, and product labeling. He represents clients both internationally and throughout the United States in a wide range of industries. Gordon’s firm was lead counsel to the defendant in Pilates Inc. v. Current Concepts, Inc., resulting in the word “Pilates” being placed in the public domain as generic. Subsequent to that decision, the firm has prevailed in proceedings before the United States Trademark Office’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and international trademark offices to cancel or prevent generic registrations of the word “Pilates.” Prior to establishing his own practice, Gordon gained experience as a young attorney in New York’s boutique Intellectual Property practice, primarily representing Fortune 100 companies, which makes him exceptionally effective in advocating for his clients. He is an active committee member of the International Trademark Association (INTA), along with other industry associations. Gordon E. R. Troy is recognized annually as one of Vermont’s "Top Business Lawyers" in Trademark and Copyright Law and Litigation.
