Hannah Kaufman Joseph: Attorney with Jeselskis Brinkerhoff and Joseph, LLC

Biography

Hannah is a true entrepreneur. She has developed a thriving and successful law practice serving the needs of small business owners and entrepreneurs. Hannah’s practice generally is focused commercial contracts. She assists clients with buying and selling businesses, forming new ventures, raising capital, employment matters, and drafting and negotiating contracts between businesses and their vendors, contractors, and customers. Hannah applies real world, practical experience owning and operating several small businesses with sophisticated legal advice on how to manage risk and maximize profit. In addition to the time Hannah spends as an attorney, she has also helped her husband run two locations of their restaurant King David Dogs, and a catering company called Mercenary BBQ.

In 2014, while working with Governor Mike Pence’s office, Hannah identified an area of the law that had antiquated and complex requirements that were inhibiting small business owners from raising money to fund their enterprises. Instead of simply complaining about the problem, Hannah worked closely with Governor Pence’s office to develop, sponsor, and pass legislation that would allow Indiana to become a leader among states in adopting flexible, modern laws for small businesses to get off the ground in innovative ways, including being one of the first states to permit equity crowdfunding.

Hannah represents local, regional, and national clients in a range of industries including food and hospitality, software and technology, manufacturing, professional services, and the arts. She also frequently represents high-net worth individuals and professional athletes to assist them with their entrepreneurial endeavors.

Hannah has an extensive background in securities and insurance. She has passed the Series 7, 63, and 65. These exams have licensed her as a stockbroker and a registered investment advisor.

Hannah was named Forty Under 40 by The Indianapolis Business Journal in 2013 and was named as Super Lawyer Rising Star in 2011 and 2013-2014. Hannah is a graduate of Indiana University and the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.

Hannah has developed such specialized expertise in her practice that she now serves as an adjunct professor at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. She is a frequent speaker and panelist on topics related to business financing, contract negotiation, employment law, and entrepreneurship. Hannah also often contributes articles to the Indianapolis Business Journal, the Indiana Law Blog, and Indianapolis Monthly.
