Biography

Hannibal F. Heredia has practiced family law almost exclusively since 1994. Since 2017, he has been named one of the Top 100 lawyers in Georgia by Atlanta magazine. After six years with Georgia Legal Services, Hannibal joined the Cartersville, Georgia law firm of Perrotta, Cahn and Prieto, P.C. in 2000 where he was part of the largest family law practice in Northwest Georgia and served the firm as managing partner for some time. In 2006, he founded the firm of Hedgepeth & Heredia, now Hedgepeth Heredia LLC, where he serves as managing partner.

In addition to practicing in all areas of the firm, Hannibal also has extensive knowledge of surrogacy law as it exists in Georgia, as well as adoption, and has spoken at continuing legal education seminars regarding this area of the law.

Atlanta magazine lists Hannibal as a Super Lawyer, Georgia Trend magazine recognizes him as “Legal Elite" in the area of Family Law and Avvo.com rates Hannibal “10.0 -Superb". Hannibal currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia and is the section's legislative liaison.

Hannibal served on the Board of Directors for the Atlanta Bar Association, Family Law Section, is a past president of the Cartersville-Bartow County Bar Association, currently serves as a Master of the Charles Longstreet Weltner Family Law Inns of Court, was a Barrister of the Bleckley Inns of Court, and has served as the Regional Coordinator of the State Bar of Georgia High School Mock Trial Program and continues to volunteer as a Judge and evaluator for the program.

He is also on the board of the Atlanta Bar Foundation, which is the charitable arm of the Atlanta Bar Association. As part of the foundation he has assisted for nine years to put on the End of Summer Party, formerly known as Law Jam, an annual fundraising event whose proceeds supports pro bono legal services and Atlanta youth programs.

Hannibal also volunteers his time for the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation serving both as legal representative for victims of domestic violence, as well as a Guardian Ad Litem.

He received his JD from Southwestern University, cum laude, in 1993, was the Editor in Chief of the Southwestern University Law Review, and received his undergraduate degree from Auburn University. He is licensed to practice before the State Bar of Georgia, the Court of Appeals of Georgia, the Supreme Court of Georgia and the United States District Court.

Hannibal is a member of All Saints Episcopal church where he volunteers as an usher. He volunteers extensively in his community. He has been appointed by the Supreme Court of Georgia to serve as a Mentor in the Transition into Law Program of the State Bar of Georgia, assisting beginning lawyers as they start their legal careers. He is a founding member of the Specific Deviations, a group of family law lawyers/musicians who entertain judges and lawyers throughout the state at continuing legal and judicial education events.
