Biography

Harvey Rees is a member of the Litigation and Arbitration Practice in Greenberg Traurig's London office. Harvey focuses his practice on international commercial arbitration and litigation, concentrating on complex multi-jurisdictional cases particularly within the banking and financial services sectors. Harvey also has experience in regulatory investigations and advisory work, with particular focus on matters involving the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), as well as contentious employment matters. Harvey has undertaken secondments to InterContinental Hotels Group PLC and Extreme E Limited during his time at Greenberg Traurig.

Experience: Representative Matters: Representing a client operating in the luxury hospitality industry against multiple European state-owned entities in complex multi-contract LCIA arbitrations arising from high-profile landmark hotels.; Conducting a large-scale internal investigation for an interdealer broker relating to breaches of FCA Rules.; Advising a leading Web3 marketplace in relation to the development of a first-of-its-kind arbitration framework for blockchain disputes.; Represented BTA bank in a $7.5 billion dispute against Mukhtar Ablyazov and Ilyas Khrapunov.; Represented an aircraft operator in an LCIA arbitration regarding claims arising from the sale of a subsidiary, successfully defending a counterclaim for fraudulent misrepresentation and achieving a settlement for the client.; Represented a global investment management and advisory company in defending an LCIA arbitration in relation to contract formation and estoppel by convention.; Advising financial services clients on specific conduct issues and whether they amount to breaches of the FCA handbook.; Advising the shareholders of Crane Bank in Uganda in relation to special measures taken against the bank by the Central Bank of Uganda and claims arising therefrom.; Representing an individual in bringing a US$ 50 million LCIA arbitration against another individual for fraud, economic duress and undue influence.; Represented a sports presenter in a dispute with a former agency for purported unpaid commission entitlements that extend beyond the term of the representation agreement, counterclaiming against the agency for purportedly understating historic fees due to the client. Obtained a settlement for the client.; Pro Bono: Representing a charity offering an 'intensive care' programme of full-time education in a safe learning environment for children unable to go to school because they have been severely bullied in defending a vexatious claim for unfair dismissal brought by a former employee guilty of gross misconduct. Successfully applying for strike-out of the claim.; Representing a small business restaurant owner on a claim brought by a household name company alleging breach of its trade mark and negotiating a settlement.
