Biography

Mr. Liu’s major practice areas include cross-border investment and financing, corporate law and mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, private equity and venture capital, funds formation, international dispute resolution.

Mr. Liu has advised more than thirty well-known international enterprises on FDI, M&A and general matters in China. He was the principal PRC legal counsel for an investment company in the course of establishment and acquisition of twelve joint ventures with a total investment of US$250 million. Representing a leading Korean international company, he assisted the Korean company to establish four major joint ventures in Shanghai, Tianjin and Hainan respectively. He represented one Germany-based and one Sweden-based multinational companies respectively in connection with the restructuring of their China operations involving dozens of subsidiaries and branches. Representing both domestic and international PE/VC funds as well as portfolio companies, he has completed more than one hundred PE/VC investments and funds formation projects. Mr. Liu has participated more than twenty international arbitrations relating to international trade and investment disputes at China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Committee (CIETAC) and Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC). In the recent years, Mr. Liu has represented a number of Chinese companies in their offshore investments and acquisitions, including Sinopec, Sinochem, SDIC, CNSG, Poly and ENN etc..

Honors & Recognition

Mr. Liu has been elected as one of the 2020 ALB China Top 15 M&A Lawyers. He was awarded as a China Leading Lawyer in Capital Markets, M & A and Private Equity fields by Asialaw Profiles, IFLR1000 (International Finance Law Review), The Legal 500, LEGALBAND, China Business Law Journal and China Law & Practice consecutively.

Working Experience

Mr. Liu started to practice at C & C Law Office in 1990. He was a visiting attorney at Clifford Chance’s London and Hong Kong offices in 1996. He had worked as an associate at Skadden Arps’ Beijing Office from 1997 to 2001. He was a partner of Beijing Yiwen Law Firm before co-founded Broad & Bright in 2004.

Education Background

Mr. Liu graduated from Peking University School of Law in 1989. During this period, he also went to study at Houghton College of the United States as an exchange student. He earned his LL.M. degree from Harvard Law School, USA in 1997.
