Biography

With more than 26 years of trial experience in Virginia’s Courts, Attorney Hugh E. “Teddy” Black, III has always strived to build a reputation amongst his clients, colleagues, and members of the judiciary for integrity, as well as a commitment to excellent legal representation.

Teddy was born and raised in Chesapeake, Virginia where he attended public schools, eventually graduating from Oscar F. Smith High School in 1984. Next, he pursued a Bachelor of Science from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia where he graduated in May of 1989. Finally, he received his law degree from Ohio Northern University, Claude W. Pettit College of Law, in Ada, Ohio in May of 1992. Following graduation, Teddy returned back to his native Chesapeake where he began the practice of law pursuing his lifelong dream of being a criminal defense attorney.

As a result, his legal representation has been concentrated in the areas of criminal and traffic defense as well as personal injury. He has successfully represented clients in all aspects of these areas of the law, striving always to maintain a strong relationship during his representation with each of his clients, while protecting their rights.

He has proven to be a strong advocate both in and out of the courtroom and has built his reputation through hard work and commitment to the principals of advocacy and beliefs in the American Jurisprudence System.

He has earned a BV Distinguished Peer Review rating by Martindale-Hubbell for professionalism and ethics. He is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL), Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (VACDL), National College for DUI Defense (NCDD), American Association of Premier DUI Attorneys (AAPDA), Virginia Trial Lawyers Association (VTLA) and American Society of Legal Advocates.
