Biography

James Hicks is a civil litigator and business lawyer who handles a wide variety of construction, real estate and commercial disputes. He has been litigating in state and federal courts for more than ten years, achieving successful results on dispositive motions, trials and appeals. He is licensed in Texas and New York.  James' varied background enables him to solve hard problems for clients. He has extensive experience with public projects and government agencies, including eminent domain, bond claims, False Claims Act litigation, and administrative proceedings. His work also includes construction defects, liens, delay claims, property damage and injury, insurance coverage, fraud, and employment cases, as well as general counseling.  James graduated from Duke University in 2007, where he earned a B.A. in Public Policy Studies and worked as Chief Operations Officer of a food delivery business. He then served for two years as a policy analyst under Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York City. James graduated from Cornell Law School in 2012, where he was an Editor of the Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy. After law school, James B. Hicks joined the New York City Law Department, primarily representing the City in condemnation litigation. He received a Division Chief Award for exemplary public service. James joined Germer’s Austin office in 2015. He is licensed to practice in Texas state courts, New York state courts, and the United States District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas.
