James Patrick Rudolph: Attorney with Holstrom, Block & Parke, A Professional Law Corporation

Biography

James P. Rudolph is an experienced California family law attorney whose practice is defined by thoughtful advocacy, strategic judgment, and a deep understanding of the personal and legal complexities clients face during family law matters. Since 2018, he has focused exclusively on family law, representing individuals in matters involving divorce, custody, support, property division, domestic violence, and negotiated settlement agreements. He approaches each case with care and precision, working to achieve outcomes that protect his clients’ interests while minimizing unnecessary conflict whenever possible.

Mr. Rudolph brings a rare and distinctive perspective to family law, shaped by a background in international law, public policy, and high-stakes litigation. He previously served as a Foreign Affairs Officer and Human Rights Fellow with the U.S. Department of State, where his work centered on human rights compliance, congressional reporting, and international legal policy. That experience continues to inform his calm, analytical approach to complex and emotionally charged disputes, including matters with international or cross-border considerations.

Before devoting his practice entirely to family law, Mr. Rudolph spent many years working on complex litigation matters, developing advanced skills in discovery, motion practice, evidentiary analysis, and trial preparation. This background allows him to identify leverage points early, manage cases efficiently, and present clear, persuasive arguments when litigation becomes necessary, while remaining focused on practical and durable resolutions.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Rudolph is an accomplished legal writer and commentator, with op-eds and essays published in nationally recognized publications including The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Hill, The San Diego Union-Tribune, JURIST, and The Christian Science Monitor. His writing reflects a longstanding engagement with constitutional law, human rights, and the rule of law—principles that guide his client-centered approach to family law advocacy. He is admitted to practice law in California and Washington, D.C., and is fluent in Spanish
