Biography

Janet Hughes Wiles (“Janel”) is one of the Partners with Wiles & Wiles, LLP. She became a founding partner with the firm in 1988, and specializes in negotiating and drafting commercial leases, together with drafting all associated documents, including assignments, amendments, and letters of intent. Her practice includes representation of both Landlords and Tenants, in retail, office, industrial/warehouse, and mixed use developments.


Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on April 14, 1958, to a family of lawyers, Janel graduated from Sweet Briar College, in Virginia (1980), having attended the Institut d’Etudes Politques, in Paris, France (1978-1979). She earned her J.D. from The Stetson University College of Law, 1983, where she met her husband and future law partner. Janel was a member of Phi Alpha Delta (International Vice Justice, 1983), and interned at the Gulf Coast Legal Services in St. Petersburg, FL.


Janel is licensed to practice law in Florida, Georgia, and Colorado. She is a member of The American Bar Association, The State Bar of Georgia and The Florida Bar. She is admitted to The Georgia Supreme Court, the Georgia Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Janel is a member of The International Council of Shopping Centers, for which she has taught specialized drafting, and the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers. She teaches real estate courses for credit through the Wiles & Wiles, LLP Real Estate School.


The mother of 5 children (her oldest son is a lawyer in Atlanta, and her second son is attending UGA Law School), Janel is active in the community, having served as a Trustee on the Board of Trustees of The Walker School, and formerly having served on the Board of the Center for Family Resources, the Board of the Kennesaw State University, College of the Humanities, and community liaison to the Atlanta Board of the Boy Scouts of America, together with numerous volunteer and leadership activities for the Cobb Junior League, Friends of the Opera, March of Dimes, Cub Scouts and a large variety of youth sports teams.
