Biography

Marty Barnhill is a native of Nacogdoches, Texas. Prior to becoming one of the original partners of Skelton Slusher Barnhill Watkins Wells PLLC in January 2014, he was an attorney and partner with the Zeleskey Law Firm from 2001 to 2013. His prior work experience included 14 years at Barnhill Poultry Supply, a family-owned business engaged in the sale of poultry equipment and poultry vaccine. While serving in various offices of Barnhill Poultry Supply, including President of the company, he oversaw the construction of hundreds of poultry houses at the three locations of the business: Nacogdoches, Pittsburg, and Gonzales, Texas. Barnhill traveled throughout Mexico for the company and consummated several large equipment and vaccine transactions with customers of Barnhill Poultry Supply in Mexico. He also has been involved in ownership of two fast food restaurants and a poultry farm prior to the founding of Skelton Slusher Barnhill Watkins Wells PLLC.

Mr. Marty Barnhill is a former partner of Zeleskey Law Firm.

In his law practice, Barnhill has capitalized on his experience in the business arena by concentrating his practice in the areas of commercial and real estate transactions and litigation. He has participated in matters including:

• Representation of purchasers and sellers in hotel and commercial real estate transactions in several states including Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Michigan and Ohio

•Preparing commercial and residential leases and real estate closing documents and contracts for the sale of real estate

• General corporate representation

• Setting up business entities, including corporations, professional corporations, limited liability companies, and limited partnerships

• Preparation of documents related to the sale and purchase of ongoing businesses

• Representation of owners in the hospitality industry

• Real estate litigation involving disputes concerning title and ownership of property, partitions, mechanic's liens, lease disputes, enforcement of restrictive covenants, adverse possession, easements, evictions, timber rights and disputes among co-tenants

• Commercial litigation and arbitration involving various issues, including contract disputes, partnerships, fraud, misrepresentation and deceptive trade practices

• Texas Deception Trade Practices Act litigation representing both plaintiffs and defendants

• Loan restructuring and workouts representing creditors and debtors

• Debt collections for businesses, both large and small

• Real estate foreclosures

• Representation of bank in federal district court in Beaumont, Texas and obtained summary judgment in favor of client on RICO claims filed against client, agricultural company, appraiser, and title company.

Barnhill and his wife, Demesa, live in Lufkin and also have a farm located in Nacogdoches County. They have three daughters, Tia, Sarah, and Grace, and a son-in-law, Jonathan McCoy.
