Biography

Jeffrey Kulwin | Trial Attorney | Chicago, Illinois

Jeffrey Kulwin is a Chicago trial attorney at Kulwin, Masciopinto & Kulwin, LLP, representing employees, executives, whistleblowers, and businesses in high-stakes litigation throughout Illinois. He practices primarily in the Circuit Court of Cook County and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Jeff handles wrongful termination, workplace retaliation, FMLA interference, whistleblower claims, and civil rights violations under Section 1983 — as well as complex commercial litigation involving shareholder disputes, business divorce, breach of fiduciary duty, and contract enforcement. His clients include mid-career professionals, C-suite executives, and closely held business owners facing disputes that demand trial-ready counsel.

What sets Jeff apart in the Chicago market is cross-side experience: he has litigated on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants, giving him a direct line of sight into how opposing counsel builds and presents a case. That perspective shapes his strategy from the first filing through verdict. Verdicts from his practice have been recognized among the Top 20 Jury Verdicts in Illinois and the Top 100 Commercial Litigation Verdicts in the United States.

If you are an employee facing retaliation, an executive negotiating a high-value departure, a whistleblower seeking confidential counsel, or a business owner dealing with a partner or shareholder dispute, Jeff Kulwin offers the trial experience and strategic depth your case demands.

Ryan et al. v. Advocate et al.

$10.2 Million Jury Verdict - Privacy Violation / Negligence Case

As a privacy and employment lawyer, I represented seven female medical professionals including a doctor, nurses, and technicians who experienced serious privacy violations at their workplace. The hospital and doctors they worked with invaded their privacy and failed to protect them from harm. After fighting hard for my clients' rights, the jury awarded $10.2 million in compensatory and punitive damages in September 2018. This verdict was recognized as one of the Top 20 Jury Verdicts in Illinois for 2018.

Marler v. BOS Group, LLC et al.

$2.5 Million Jury Verdict - Commercial Litigation

In this commercial litigation case, I represented a majority member of an LLC who was cheated through fraud and breach of contract during the company's dissolution. The case involved complex business disputes and contract violations. In March 2019, the jury sided with my client and awarded $2.5 million in compensatory and punitive damages. This verdict was recognized as one of the Top 50 Jury Verdicts in Illinois and one of the Top 100 Commercial Litigation Verdicts in the United States for 2019.

Geraty v. Village of Antioch

$279,000 Jury Verdict - Court-Ordered Promotion - Discrimination Victory - Police Officer Promotion Case

As a discrimination and employment attorney, I represented a female police officer who faced unfair treatment and was denied promotions because of her gender. She was passed over for both a Sergeant position and a Detective role despite being qualified. The jury found that the village violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. My client won compensatory damages and the court ordered her promotion to Sergeant, ensuring she received the position she deserved.

Schmalz v. Village of North Riverside et al.

$600,000 Jury Verdict - Retaliation and Defamation Case

As a retaliation and defamation attorney, I represented a union president who was defamed by the mayor as political payback for standing up for workers' rights. This case involved defamation claims against the village government. In June 2023, the jury found in favor of my client and awarded $600,000 in compensatory and punitive damages against the former mayor, proving that employers cannot punish workers for exercising their rights.

Denison et al. v. Myers, et al.

$702,049 Verdict - Shareholder Dispute

In this complex commercial litigation case, I represented majority shareholders who were being harmed by a minority shareholder who was illegally competing against their own company. The case involved breach of fiduciary duty and unfair business practices. In April 2018, the court awarded my clients $702,049 in compensatory and punitive damages, stopping the harmful competition and protecting their business interests.

Perry et al. v. Klusmeyer$4 Million Judgment - Privacy Violation Case

As a privacy lawyer, I represented victims in a disturbing invasion of privacy case where a supervisor placed hidden cameras in a women's staff restroom. In this egregious violation of privacy, the court entered a $4 million judgment against the offender, recognizing the serious harm caused by the violation and ensuring justice was served for those affected.
