Biography

Ms. Colton focuses her practice on marital and family law. She regularly represents clients in complex divorce matters involving the valuation and distribution of closely held businesses, medical and other professional practices, as well as substantial real property and other assets. Her experience includes divorce, equitable distribution, timesharing and parental responsibility issues (formerly known as custody), and the preparation and review of prenuptial agreements.

Ms. Colton began her legal career at the New York office of a large international law firm, where she worked on a broad range of commercial litigation matters in federal and state courts including class actions, toxic torts and securities litigation. She has also practiced in Minneapolis and Philadelphia, where she handled a wide variety of commercial and business disputes, as well as S. 1983 civil rights litigation and employment law matters.

While in law school, Ms. Colton was the President of the Harvard Mediation Program and served as a mediation trainer and a mediator in landlord-tenant disputes, small claims cases, and parent-child conflicts in Boston area courts. Ms. Colton also volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for Boston area children. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Colton worked in the Office of the General Counsel for the U.S. House of Representatives.
