Joel Albert Paget

Joel Paget, who graduated from the University of Idaho College of Law in May 2023, is a newly minted-attorney with a focus on civil litigation and complex business litigation. Joel brings his well-honed teamwork skills to the firm, echoing his collegiate soccer days and embracing the variety and challenges that the legal field offers.

Joel’s undergraduate education began at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where he earned a B.S. in Global Security and Intelligence Studies, along with a minor in Unmanned Aircraft Systems. He was also part of the Men’s Soccer Team and received a Scholar Athlete Award. For his J.D., he attended the University of Idaho College of Law, where he distinguished himself as a McNichols Competition Quarter Finalist, earned pro bono recognition, and served as the Chief Articles Editor for the Critical Legal Studies Journal.

Originally from Indianapolis and later Flagstaff, Joel moved to Boise in the summer of 2019. Initially eyeing a government career due to his Global Security background, a late pivot to law was prompted by pre-law classes during his senior year and a desire to help other people.

Choosing to join Elam & Burke was a thoughtful decision. Joel clerked for the firm during the Summer of 2022 and found the firm’s culture welcoming, flexible, and collaborative, satisfying everything he hoped to find in a law firm to call home. He also gained experience externing for Idaho Supreme Court Justice Colleen Zahn in the Spring of 2023. Looking forward, Joel is enthusiastic about diving deeper into civil and complex business litigation, as well as insurance defense work.

On a personal note, Joel and his wife met in college, she is now a computer engineer at Micron. They share an active lifestyle, both stemming from their soccer days and extending to early-morning runs and weekend hikes. With screens dominating their professional lives, Joel and his wife relish the outdoor moments, along with their pet dog and cat.
