Biography

Mr. Ekenes joined John L. Dodd & Associates in 2013 after a stint at a general practice firm. He graduated in 2012 cum laude from Western State University, where he was on the honor roll, earning the Witkin Award for scholarship in Torts and Professional Skills. While in law school, he served as a judicial extern with the Los Angeles Superior Court and the Court of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District, Division Two. He also excelled at moot court competitions, charting his career path toward appellate law by participating in the Roger J. Traynor California Appellate Moot Competition, winning awards for the best brief in 2011 and outstanding individual achievement in oral argument in 2011 and 2012. Mr. Ekenes became a Certified Appellate Specialist in 2019.

Mr. Ekenes received his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Brigham Young University in 2009. He is the author of The Need for Formalities with Forensic Evidence: Why the Melendez-Dias Holding Should Be Limited, 38 W.St.U.L.Rev. 209 (2011).
