John F. Mahoney: Attorney with Lawrence Kamin, LLC

Biography

Lawrence Kamin partner John F. Mahoney joined the firm in October 2005 as a business advisor and counselor to for-profit and not-for-profit clients on business formation and entity selection, estate planning, taxation, financing and equity investment, governance, employment and related corporate matters.

John's extensive business and leadership experience, from both within and outside of the legal profession, provides John the ability to be a true counselor for his clients. John views his role as more than simply explaining the relevant legal landscape, but as standing in the shoes of his clients and helping outline a course of action that takes into consideration the legal issues and problems faced.

John appreciates the difficulty and importance of momentum- and consensus-building in large membership organizations, having served many roles, including president, for the National Association of Investors Corporation's Chicago Council, a not-for-profit organization that provides education and support for individuals and investment clubs.

Before joining Lawrence Kamin, John honed his teamwork and employee-relations skills as chairman of the Operations Committee of Chuhak & Tecson, P.C., running the day-to-day operations of the firm while continuing his law practice. He started his career as an auditor with Price Waterhouse (now Price Waterhouse Coopers) after passing the CPA examination at his first sitting. In 2007, John was elected Mayor of the Village of Palos Park, a beautiful rural hamlet in southwest Cook County, and before that was elected Commissioner of public health and safety for the village. An avid individual investor since his teenage years, he also enjoys mountain-biking the 11,000+ acres of forest preserve trails near his home, and playing basketball.
