Biography

A life long resident of Virginia, John Jackson received his undergraduate degree from Duke University in 1973 and his law degree in 1976 from William & Mary. His practice has focused on estate planning, estate administration, taxation and fiduciary litigation. In estate administration, Mr. Jackson has served as personal representative or counsel to the fiduciary for many estates in all of the Northern Virginia counties.

John has been a frequent speaker to professional and civic groups on topics such as estate planning, charitable giving, probate, and trusts. He has served as Chairman of the Fairfax Bar Association's sections on "Wills and Estates" and "Taxation", and served as a member of the Virginia State Bar's Disciplinary Committee. He is a member of the Northern Virginia Estate Planning Council, Fairfax Bar Association, Virginia State Bar Association, and Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. Also active in several charitable organizations, he has served on the Planned Giving Advisory Committee of Hospice of Northern Virginia, the Woodberry Forest School Parent Advisory Committee, the Duke University Alumni Admissions Advisory Committee, and as a Director for the Northern Virginia Speech and Language Center. He has served as an Elder of his church and helped create or advise the planned giving campaigns of various churches, schools and charities.

John and Carol, his wife for over 40 years, have three children: Matthew, a graduate of Duke University, now working in Berlin, Germany on software for music synthesizers; Katie, formerly a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay for three years, a graduate of Georgetown University Medical School, now a resident at the Duke Hospital; and Elizabeth, a graduate of Wake Forest, formerly a second grade charter school teacher in inner city, Washington, D. C., now raising her son. John and Carol are blessed with four grandchildren (and counting).
